appreciated the american wheat. smooth with an appreciable aftertaste. for the over the rhine raz, took two growlers back to cleveland with me. it's that good. the rasberry flavor was not overpowering enough to cloud the taste of the unfiltered wheat ale, but provided an excellent aftertate. thanks guys! (Date added: 2/3/98) I received poor service, and the food was less than average. Weak beers, flavorless overall. Seems to be riding the microbrew trend. (Date added: 10/22/97) The stout was good, but the other beers lacked character\ and substance. The food is okay, but the atmosphere of the place seems dark and dirty. Overall average. Anon. The second floor of the Main Street Brewery, Cincinnati's orginal brewpub, is undergoing a major renovation. Set to open in mid-September, SWING LOUNGE is described as a CLUB WITH A TWIST. Upscale, yet comfortable enough to attract the usual lounge lizards... comfy sofas and overstuffed chairs... great jazz, swing, and R & B music... great food served.... dancing encouraged.... cigars, martinis, cocktails, and don't forget the award-winning, hand-cafted ales brewed downstairs and flowing upstairs. (Date added: 8/20/97) - Angie Leondedis Cincinnati's first brewpub is a fairly good one. In the half a dozen times that I have been there, I think that the beer may have been 'dumbed down' a bit, but it is still noteworthy. Of particular note are the rich, malty, creamy, wonderful Steamboat Stout and the sensationally malty Abigail's Amber. "I really like the flavor of the Abigail's Red, a nice strong mix of maltiness and hopped bitterness. For anyone who enjoys coffee, the Steamboat Stout has an incredibly roasted character. The Pale Ale is good but a little overhopped for the style in my opinion. A fews months back, they brewed a seasonal brown ale that was very good (St. Barnabus Brown, I believe). I recommend their food; unlike some microbreweries, Main Street's food is excellent. Name is Main Street Brewery, owned by the Queen City Brewing Co. We sell 1/2 gallon "Growlers" of beer to go. Voted "best local brewpub" and "best happy hour" by local paper, Everybody's News. New seasonals include a Weizenbock and Old Scratch, our strongest brewed beer. Beer sold by our sister company, the Main Street Brewing Co. (a seperate microbrewery) is on tap at over 30 local restaurants, bars, and sporting venues. We no longer offer the Dunkelwiezen. We have a Honey Blonde, made with honey from a local beekeeper, and serve several beers brewed by our sister company, the Main Street Brewing Co.: Cyclones Red Ale, brewed by the Main Street Brewing Co. for the Cincinnati Cyclones Hockey Team; and Toby's New Zealand Dark |
