See what gak thinks of the beers from Frontwaters Restaurant and Brewing at Beer Is My Life!

Be sure to call ahead for hours of operation. This brewpub is not open at all during the winter, and limited hours spring/fall until tourist season. On another note, tell me who the "BrewJerk" was who wrote the most recent review, so that I can visit his pub. I can be equally critical, and this industry needs nurturing, not criticism. Even if their product was not to his liking, he does not have the right to attempt to put a competiitor our of business. I assume slander laws apply to the internet. (Date added: 4/11/98) - Tom Adam

I would have voted 0 if it were available! This is without question one of the most horrible breweries on the entire planet. I have travelled to well over 150 breweries in the US and Europe and I cannot understand the comments/reviews below. Not only are the brewers and owners completely ignorant of common off-flavors (wildly abundant in their brews), but they seem to have no concept of what classic beer styles should taste like. Once, at the brewery, I was asked whether I preferred the diacetyl (buttery off-flavor) better in the pale ale or the brown ale! Another time the owner told me how "great" their stout was after ageing for 9 or 10 months in the keg. (Mind you this was not a brew of high alcoholic strength or one that would otherwise benifit from extended ageing!) These people are doing a disservice to the microbrewing industry by thrusting infected, disgusting "beer" on innocent initiates. They also are trashing highly regarded beer styles such as Lambi! c. I would be shocked if they have ever tasted a real Belgian Lambic such as those made by Frank Boon or the Cantillion Brewery, much less even a Lindeman's or Timmerman's. I can guarantee that for every reviewer who gave them a 5, there are hundreds who cringe at the thought of ever putting one of these concoctions in their mouths again!

(Editor's Note: The above comment is from a competing brewer -- take it with a grain of salt -- we are not saying that it is invalid, but in the fairness of disclosure, this should be known) (Date added: 3/28/98)

I never really liked microbrewed beers until I tried the Belgian Abbey Ale. It is now my favorite drink. It tastes like a fruity tart wine and goes perfect with their lemon pepper chicken fettucini. We discovered this unique brewery while on vacation at the Lake Erie Islands. We will definitely go back for more of their beers the next time we are in Marblehead. (Date added: 11/17/97)

Some of the best brews in the world. Numerous different varieties on tap each with its own unique flavor. The restaurant boasts amazing steaks and fresh Lake Erie Perch and Walleye. My recommendation is either the Crystal Rock Dopplebock or the Coriander Amber Lambic! This quaint little place is a must see for any brew enthusiast! I heard they have begun to bottle about a half dozen of their brews.
Look for them in stores all around Ohio. (Date added: 11/2/97)

Good variety of beers. Gale Warning is a wonderful IPA, the dopplebock and both stouts tasty, Belgian, Witt, Coriander Lambic and others are true to style.
Food pricey but very good, good atmosphere, staff and view. (Date added: 10/26/97)
